A mailing list is a list of email addresses which receive the same email simultaneously. When you send an email to the mailing list address, it will be redirected to all the addresses on that mailing list automatically, but none of the receivers will know who the other recipients are. In the general case, one has to sign up for a list, but occasionally email addresses are included manually without their owners’ permission. Depending on the concrete mailing list management software, you may also be able to add new mailing list subscribers, so users will not be able to sign up for a mailing list unless you authorize their request.
